U.S. Embassy Rangoon is aware that the Burmese military have detained some political leaders including State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. There is potential for political and civil unrest in Burma and we will continue to monitor the situation and m. We advise all U.S. citizens in Burma to take the necessary precautions, including postponing unnecessary travel, reviewing your personal security plans, remaining aware of your surroundings, and monitoring local news for updates. Avoid large gatherings and demonstrations, which can become violent at any time without notice. Be vigilant and keep a low profile. If stopped, comply with authorities.
